Idly and indolently pass the time.

My brother Sandor has been preaching about how amazing The Witcher games are for a few months now. He even bought me The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition as a gift on Steam.

Sandor believes I would enjoy The Witcher games. And after reading about them and watching all the official game trailers, I'm starting to think he might be right. So, yes, I will give The Witcher games and its universe a chance.

Before playing The Witcher games:

Before venturing into the world of The Witcher games, I'll start with The Witcher novels and stories by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.

For the first three books, I will listen to them as audiobooks. I already purchased the first two audiobooks: The Last Wish and The Time of Contempt: The Witcher, Book 2.

About The Witcher novels:

The Witcher is a series of six fantasy novels and 15 short stories written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series revolves around the eponymous "witcher," Geralt of Rivia. In Sapkowski's works, "witchers" are beast hunters who develop supernatural abilities at a young age to battle wild beasts and monsters. The Witcher began with a titular 1986 short story that Sapkowski entered into a competition held by Fantastyka magazine, marking his debut as an author. Due to reader demand, Sapkowski wrote 14 more stories before starting a series of novels in 1994. Known as The Witcher Saga, he wrote one book a year until the fifth and final installment in 1999. A standalone prequel novel, Season of Storms, was published in 2013.

The books appear to have a cult following in Poland and Central and Eastern European countries. They have been translated into 37 languages and sold over 15 million copies worldwide in December 2019. They have also been adapted into a film (The Hexer), two television series (The Hexer and The Witcher), a trilogy of video games (The Witcher, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), and a graphic novel series. The video games have been even more successful, with more than 50 million copies sold in May 2020.

What else have I done to prepare for The Witcher games?

Well, I invested a lot of time and money building a new gaming rig for my workstation while my brother Sandor did most all the building. What can I say? He loves building gaming rigs. I now have a powerful SFF gaming PC ready to welcome the next generation of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I am also setting up my workstation to complement my new SFF gaming rig.

I'll post more about my new gaming rig on my site in case you want the specs.
